    Concept of Development : 

Development indicates changes related to growth in the physical, mental and emotional state of an individual.
Some definition of development given by various thinkers are given below:--


  • Jersild, Telford and Sawrey said " Development refers to the complex set of process involved in the emergence of a mature functioning organism from a fertilized ovum".

  • JE Anderson said, "Development is concerned with growth as well as those changes in behaviour which result from environmental situations".
  •  
  • E. Hurlock said, “Development is not limited to the growing level. Instead, it consists of a progressive series of changes towards the goal of maturity”.

  •  Furthermore "Furthermore, he said that development leads to the growth of new abilities in an individual."
  •  
  • Thus, in the process of development, new abilities and characteristics manifest themselves and a progressive change in behavior occurs.
Characteristics of Development:

Important characteristics are as follows:--

1. The process of development continues from the moment of conception until it survives individually.

3. Development occurs in a sequence manner and follows a certain sequence.

4. Human growth and development is a very complex events.

5. It is possible to predict the rate of development by observing a slow beginner and a higher child, but this cannot be accurately estimated.


6. Individuals differ from each other in their format and rate of development.
